Why come

Predore sitson the western shore of Lake Iseo in the province of Bergamo, beyond the Valcalepio, with Monte Bronzone rising to 1,334 meters directly behind the village. Below the modern streets runs a Roman villa of 15,000 square meters that extended from the mountain slope down to the ancient lakeside port; brought to light by a 2003 construction project, the complex includes a complete thermal sequence of frigidarium, tepidarium, and caldarium added in the 2nd-3rd centuries. An inscribed votive altar to Diana from the centro storico ties the complex to the family of consul Marco Nonio Arrio Cuciano, around 201 AD. In the medieval period Predore was a fortress with two lakeside towers protecting the palace. The Bus del Coren cave above the village holds Neolithic finds, the only cave dwellings of that period in the whole Bergamo area.

April through October is the lake season on the Bergamo shore. April and May open the ferries from Iseo to Sarnico and Monte Isola, the lakefront cafés put their tables out, and Monte Bronzone clears of snow for hill walks. June through August can be hot, with afternoon highs in the low thirties; the lake breeze keeps the lungolago comfortable, and the western shore catches sunset light directly. September and October are quieter, with vineyards turning in the lower Valcalepio and the Roman villa visits available without crowds. November through March is winter quiet: short days, frequent fog on the lake, and the village settles into its 1,850 residents.
