Why come
Arenzano sits in a bay at the foot of Capo San Martino on the Riviera di Ponente, twenty kilometers west of Genova. Two-thirds of the commune is mountain, rising into the Parco naturale regionale del Beigua, with peaks above a thousand meters, so the same town offers a swimming bay and an hour's climb to alpine pasture. The Santuario di Gesù Bambino di Praga, consecrated in 1908, was the first in the world dedicated to the Infant of Prague and remains the global center of that devotion; pilgrims still arrive year-round. Villa Negrotto Cambiaso, the seat of the comune, sits in a public park of palm and cedar with a small aviary and a glasshouse. Arenzano reached the Borgo dei Borghi RAI final, which brought enough recognition to fill August weekends but not enough to make the rest of the year hard.

April through June is the cleanest stretch for combining the Beigua trails with sea swimming, before the heat. July and August fill the bay with Genovesi day-trippers and weekend cars on the via Aurelia; the centro storico can be hard to park. September empties out and stays warm enough to swim into October. November through March is quiet, with the sanctuary still open daily and the upper Beigua trails sometimes under snow above 1,000 meters. The Beigua light in winter, when the offshore air is clear, lets you see Corsica from Monte Reixa.
How to get there
