The festa: papa Gregorio I, second Monday of March

Why come

Valdobbiadene sits in the Treviso Prealps, fifty-five kilometers northwest of Venice, on the western edge of the Conegliano-Valdobbiadene UNESCO landscape inscribed in 2019. The town gives its name to the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG, classified in 2009 as the highest tier of the Glera-based wines. The peak parcel is Cartizze, a 108-hectare hilltop above the frazione of San Pietro di Barbozza where the rocky south-facing slope runs from 200 to 350 meters and produces the most expensive sparkling wine in Italy.

The Duomo of Santa Maria Assunta on Piazza Marconi was rebuilt in the 1790s in neoclassical style. Villa dei Cedri at the foot of the centro storico hosts the Mostra del Cartizze e Valdobbiadene DOCG each spring, and the Antica Fiera di San Gregorio on the second Monday of March opens the wine calendar. Producers along the Strada del Prosecco between San Pietro, Santo Stefano and Guia run cellar doors through the warm months.
